ParentsSOS Welcomes Introduction of House Companion Bill to Kids Online Safety Act
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Parents for Safe Online Spaces (ParentsSOS), an educational initiative formed by bereaved families to combat online harm, recognizes with gratitude the introduction of the House companion bill by Reps. Kathy Castor (FL-14) and Gus Bilirakis (FL-12) to the Senate's Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). This development marks a step forward in bipartisan efforts to safeguard children from online dangers.
"We are deeply appreciative of the bipartisan support that the Kids Online Safety Act has received and grateful to Representatives Castor and Bilirakis for their leadership," said Maurine Molak, co-founder of ParentsSOS. "We look forward to educating lawmakers in the House about how KOSA is essential to stopping the preventable tragedies that far too many young people experience online.”
The introduction of the House version of KOSA represents a needed milestone in legislative efforts to address the serious and growing concerns about children's safety on the internet.
ParentsSOS remains committed to working with lawmakers and stakeholders in reviewing and refining this bill to ensure it effectively meets the needs of protecting minors from online harms.
“We are one giant step closer to ending Big Tech’s reign of terror and putting in long-needed guardrails to protect children online,” said Josh Golin, Executive Director of Fairplay. “We urge leadership in both the House and Senate to prioritize this lifesaving legislation - families can’t wait any longer.”
